Billions released for training athletes for Commonwealth Games



The Sports Ministry of the union government has provided a massive fund of Rs. 802 crores ( Rs.8.02 billion) to train India's elite sports persons for the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. The fund, would facilitate state-of-art training, foreign exposure, scientific backup and equipment to athletes.

The selection process under the scheme is done by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in consultation with the national sports federations of the concerned discipline before preparing the list of core probables with a profile of each sports person. The list will go to the government-constituted 'monitoring committee' and 'steering committee' before it is finalized

These core probables will undergo state of art training and exposure at various competition venues and closer to the Games, based on their performance, the teams which will represent India at the Commonwealth Games will be selected from out of these core probables.
