After Delhi Police went on record on Friday saying it would have been ‘‘better ‘if the Games venues had been handed over to them by this time to carry out security drills, the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) department said it would have been ‘‘easier’’ to coordinate with volunteers and carry out fire safety drills with police and volunteers if they had been given the venues by now.
Talking to Times City, DFS director R C Sharma said they will have to wait for construction work to get over before they can begin with the mandatory drills. ‘‘It would have been better if we could test the venues earlier. But we have drawn up an action plan according to the changed circumstances and do not think it will be a major issue,’’ said Sharma.
About the issue of granting NOCs to the Games venues, sources said ‘‘no fixed time’’ has been decided. ‘‘We have ensured necessary equipment has been fitted at all venues. However, several connections need to be completed. Only after that, we can proceed to the next level and fill water in the underground tanks. We can check for leaks once these processes are over. We’re waiting for a go-ahead from the construction agencies,’’ said a senior officer who is in charge of CWG operations.
